NetFlix Is Gonna Kill

So I am sure everyone around these parts knows of Netflix and some even use this great service.

Did you know you can also stream Movies and TV show right from their website? It works pretty good. I have been able to watch quite a few good British comedy's that otherwise I would not have seen. (Coupling for the Win, if you like sagacious British humor.) With that said, I have enjoyed being able to watch a lot of older Movies and Tv shows this way. The only downside as of yet, is that they only have a Windows Only client to watch these movies. While not a big deal for me, others that might only have Mac's, this makes for a harder use.

Supposedly they are working on the Mac deal, and it's mainly a DRM issue. (surprise)

My one gripe about the watch it now service is that you have to be tied to your computer. I could be like Ryan and have computer in my bedroom to use as a media center. Alas, we are down to four computers in the house now, and three of them are Mac's, again fix the DRM thing and I would be golden.

Then today I see this article "http://gizmodo.com/389698/first-netflix-streaming-box-review-100-and-unlimited-downloads" and I have to think. I think Netflix just might have trumped Apple in their quest for your TV. For a one time charge of 99 bucks plus the 10 bucks a month I already pay Netflix, they will send me a box that will allow me to watch their service on any tv I hook it up to and can get a good high speed internet connection into it. This is the bees Knees baby.

Sure you can do this with the Apple TV, but it will cost at least $199 and then you have to pay for most of the content. I give Apple enough of my money already.

I know its only 480i and P right now. However they have HD in the works, and it will run over the same box just needs a firmware upgrade.

Now if I only lived in Shelton and had that glass thingy they call fiber, at my house.

Now tell me if you would even consider such a box?

What am I wearing Today?

For those that work with me or know me casually, this may come as a shock to you. I am a Christian Man. Sadly you should already know this. This past Sunday our church had a substitute pastor preach. He preached on Colossians 3:1-17 and he spoke in terms that for some reason really stuck a chord in me. He related Paul's message in Colossians about how we need to put away our anger, wrath, malice and slander, and to put to death sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry, and those things of earthly nature. Paul talks about how we must put off our old selfs and put on a new self that is in the image of God. Pastor Brian, put it into terms of not worrying about the labels on our clothes our worrying about how we look on the outside, but it being about how we look on the inside and how we present ourselves to each other. Pastor Brian challenged us to do something about our clothing this week, to not just wear clothes, but to change the clothing that might not be a good fit.

Its in this vein that causes me to pen this missive tonight. I need to change my clothing!! For those that know me, of late I have had quite a bit of anger and wrath that I have been wearing. I need to take that set of clothing and burn it. It does not do me any good or those around me. God calls us to put on clothing that is "
holy and beloved, compassionate heart, kindness, humility, meekness, and patient". These are clothes that show the true meaning of Christ and embodies what a Christian should try to wear at all times. For whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

For it has been through Christ that I have tried to live my life. So now I need to be more Christlike in my actions and words. This is my challenge, and it is one that I am ready for in this point in my life.

So what are you wearing, and how do those clothes fit? Are you at a point where you feel that you should change them?

God in his infinite wisdom, taught me today through a co-worker. Ryan brought up a good point about trying to focus on the positive, and that is something that I have been struggling with and his comments hit this little chord in me that started ringing on Sunday, and now I feel that God wants me to keep this chord ringing and to let it be heard.

Since I must do what my co-workers do, I have created my travel Buddie profile too. Here is a map of the places I have been.

Someday, I shall take my family on some of the same glorious travels that I had as a youth.

Home again Home again

It is amazing that after a week away from home I am so glad to be back. This last trip was very nice, Cisco Networkers was a great conference, and I learned quite a bit of good information. The other nice aspect of this trip, was the women of my life joining me for the last day of the conference, and our subsequent mini vacation. That was a great bonus. Was not quite sure how it would work, but alas, I should always know to trust in the Lord. This was Kim's first time, to travel without me being there to orchestrate everything. Let me just say that she did a great job. If you have never traveled with young kids, you have no idea the horror that can be inflicted upon you, by your own children.

Of course since we were in Anaheim, CA. a trip to Disneyland was inevitable. For those of you rolling your eyes, I have one thing to say. Get over it :) Yes, the Moore family is addicted to everything Disney. To expand on that though will require a separate post.

Overwhelming

So day three is half over now. The trade show opened today as well. I can not recall the last time that I have seen so many people trying to all do the same thing. I know I mentioned it yesterday. But when you stop and think about it, its just crazy. There is something like 10k people at this conference and I think that every single person here has a laptop. I am amazed at how many people are sitting on the floor wherever they can find a power cord. the network today has turned into something as slow as dial-up. I'm thinking we have over saturated a link. It would be fun to see a netflow graph for this conference.

Classes have been insightful so far. It makes me realize just how far we need to go, and how much work we have ahead of us. Now if we can only get some more bodies. Otherwise I think a large consulting contract might have to be budgeted for soon.
